Title: High-Res Scans Of CQ Sleeve And CD
Post by: Richie on April 07, 2009, 09:25:53 AM
We never had high-resolution scans of the CQ CD sleeve and CD label, so I decided to scan mine.  A smaller version will be uploaded to the gallery shortly.

5600x2900 of JPG takes forever to load. >__<

Besides that, these are great high quality scans!  ;D
Thanks for uploading them.

I like that picture of the Chex Ship on the back of the sleeve.
After some work in GIMP and MSPaint I got this.

The plan is to download them on another computer, then zip them up and send them to the Gallery.

Whoa, that is a NICE picture of the Chex ship! =o

I should totally rebuild it in Second Life. It has a very geometric shape to its parts, so it shouldn't be too difficult with a little primming and texturing. ^_^

Ay-yah, Richie, how on Earth did you upload such high-resolution scans? My scanner definitely can't do that.

And that IS a sweet Chex Ship pic!

We put our disc and sleeve in a jewelcase shortly after we got it.

Too bad that picture of the ship isn't less fuzzy...

Hey, if Lucius was around he could DEFINITELY touch it up. Maybe some of our photo artists could do a bit of smoothing with it.

I got the download of these up on my website. It's all in one ZIP (thought that's mainly just for packaging, since the ZIP couldn't hardly do anything for the JPG images.

We have a really nice scanner.  That's actually the mid-range resolution it can produce.  It can go so high, you need 20 GB of RAM to view the image.

Hm, I might be able to do a little touching up in Photoshop, but no guarantees.

*cracks knuckles*

First, you need a 64-bit operating system to read all of it. 32-bit only supports up to 4GB. Second, you'd need a hardcore motherboard that can handle all that. I found this one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136066) after a quick search. Third, you'd need lots of RAM sticks. That motherboard supports up to 6 sticks, so you'd need 5 4GB sticks. But we're cool, so we'll get all six sticks. ;D

That fact is minimized due to the bragging rights that arise due to the fact that you own one of the most powerful consumer computers on the planet. ;)

Do they have 4 gig sticks yet? And sheesh, that would be SO expensive...and yet, even most gaming rigs don't have 20 gb of ram...

I think this is, without a shadow of a doubt, an Off Topic Discussions topic.  XD

I was wondering how long we could keep it in CQ without you noticing. ;D

Well, feel free to carry on with the off topic silliness.  That's what this section is for.

Hey, if Lucius was around he could DEFINITELY touch it up. Maybe some of our photo artists could do a bit of smoothing with it.

Sorry to bump, but I did a repaint of said Chex ship to make it look less grainy.

I think the repaint looks a little off tbh

Yeah quite the bump. Almost 5 years.
Not a problem though. I decided to take this challenge and ended up with this:
(http://i416.photobucket.com/albums/pp244/FA-57/Chex%20Ship%20Wallpaper_zpsrn8q14no.png) (http://s416.photobucket.com/user/FA-57/media/Chex%20Ship%20Wallpaper_zpsrn8q14no.png.html)
I think it works. Not exactly a 'repaint' as I'm terrible at image editing.

The Chex Ship and Bazoik models aren't mine either. :P
Credit for that rightly goes to Chukker.

I tried to get it as close to the original as I could. But the ship's metallic texture in the original just felt off to me.
I hope you all like the change I made to that. I tried to make it fit the more painted style of the sprites.
Let me know what you think! :whale
