Legacy 1.44

A new coder came to the Legacy team, and has been adding a TON of bugfixes, which will be compiled into the last of the 1.0 branch, Legacy 1.44.

After they get a stable and satisfactory version of 1.44, they'll swap over to total focus on the 2.0 branch, and starting for release.

I noticed the thread while looking for info on the Legacy coronas for the DyLi's, and noticed that updates were being done to Legacy. Boingo posted once, and Xbolt posted once...Boingo talking about 1.32 (possibly meaning 1.42) being different from this new 1.44 (unreleased), while Xbolt noticed that the changelog linked by the main dev mentioned ALOT of newmaps and chexquest fixes (by name, said stuff like "Fix segfault in chexquest-newmaps due to lightlist bad value.") as well as a built in Chex Quest mode that mimics the behavior of stuff like Chocolate doom, as well as what appears to be Strife support.

Xbolt then commented that this stuff was enough to make him finish his project (newmaps).

SO! If 1.44 comes out, will we see the finishing of Newmaps?

Aha, you found my secret message... Yes, I do plan on releasing Newmaps IV someday, using Legacy 1.44.

I've been working on it over the summer. Well, trying to, anyway. When I started at the beginning of summer, I set a goal of releasing on August 13th (yesterday) but I just couldn't make it... I'm stuck trying to come up with new level designs. Three episodes have been done already, and I don't know what I can do differently to make IV stand out as a worthy successor to the first three. I've pretty much got the story down; I just need good map design to overlay on top of it... And with school starting up again next week, I doubt it'll be out this year. Again.

(Shoot, I'm beginning to look like John Romero with Daikatana... Grandiose promises, without the ability to actually follow through with them... XD)

Grandiose indeed...but will you (well, they) be able to pull it through?

Tune in this time next year!

i thought the 3rd was very different from the 1st and 2nd episodes... in both story, feel, and all the (funny) cutscenes.

Oh yeah, around episode 3 is when Xbolt really got into fragglescript. So mix that in with the crazy, weird, funny, and other ideas we had and put it all together and you get what episode 3 was.

How many maps have you completed or are working on currently? I doubt I'd be able to help as my mod takes up most of my time, but I' like to know what all you have done.

E4M1 is done, part of E4M2, and E4M8 is planned out.

I just thought of something else, will the Episode 1 maps be refurbished somewhat? They're lacking the polish of the second and third Episode maps, and a lot of people are turned off by them before they even start the other levels.

xbolt, do you want to finish Newmaps?

If you need some help with Gzdoom/Skulltag, let me know, I'd be willing to help you out.

DECORATE isn't that hard, it seems intimidating at first, but you'll have it mastered in no time if you keep working with it.

I wanted to try out the awesomeness of newmaps, because I never got around to really trying it before, but when I try to play it, I get a segment violation or something after it starts... ???
Title: Re: 1.44

...you are playing it with TUCQphase2beta3 added before newmaps, right?
(or did xbolt merge it in his last release? can't remember...)

Yes. And actually, I just tested it, and starting from levels other than the first levels of the episodes works fine, like it's something wrong with having cutscenes... All it does is show that light grey carpet texture and then it crashed and complains. :(

You're not supposed to use TUCQ with it. I merged all the files a few betas back.

Okay, I just solved my problem myself... you never said you need OpenGL for the cutscenes to work...

I thought I remembered saying in the readme that you need to use OpenGL... Oh well, at least you got it working.

Well, it says you should use OpenGL if possible, but it never said that the cutscenes don't work in software mode...
