Title: Powerups
Post by: 75 on September 01, 2010, 10:08:53 PM
Powerups that were already included with chex3.wad

Radiation suit                  =       Slimeproof suit
Soulsphere                     =      Supercharge breakfast
Computer Area map          =       that weird flashing square thing

Powerups that have been replaced

Doomsphere                    =   Zorch sphere
Megasphere                    =   Frosted Chex piece
Rage                             =   Spam!
Spread                          =   "Spread"
High jump                      =   High Jump boots
Max Armor bonus             =  recolor of slime repellant
Max Health Bonus            =   OJ
Invulnerability                 =   rotating frosted chex piece

Powerups that I have plans for

Berserk (no change, it'll be used with the zorch gloves)

Powerups that I don't know what to do with (post your ideas in this topic, if you have any)

Turbosphere
Haste
Reflection
Resistance
Prosperity
Partial Invisibility
Guardsphere
Time Freeze sphere
Regeneration - this one will be tough, but it's really important

Powerups that make no sense at all in chex quest - they'll be removed.

Drain (no sensical, non-demonic way to do it)
Red armor (useless)
Strength (same as doomsphere)

Brand new powerups

Mercury mode (idea from ROTT) - temporarily allows you to fly

I don't know what you have for "Spread", but I just had the thought that a jar of peanut butter or jelly or some kind of food spread. XD

This may look a little cheesy, but the Time Freeze thing could be a small clock covered in ice. :whale

I already have a spread replacement  XD

you're pretty close though... think more along the lines of vegetable oil

The clock thing is a possibility

It might be helpful in coming up with ideas for these if I knew what the heck they all did.

Ok

Artifacts

Doomsphere - Double damage for a short time

Megasphere  - gives 200% health and armor

Invulnerability - invincible for a bit

Guardsphere - quarters the damage done to you

Time Freeze sphere - freezes time for a bit

Berserk- heavy damage with your fists, effective for the entire level (or until you die)

Turbosphere  - run at 4X speed for a short time

Partial Invisibility - makes the player partially invisible (like a spectre)

Runes

Rage           - your weapons fire twice as fast

Spread        - your weapons fire triple projectiles, in a fan sort of shape

High jump     - doubles your jump height

Haste - run at 2X speed

Reflection - it reflects some enemy shots back at the person who shot it

Resistance - halves the damage done to the player

Prosperity - allows the player to carry 2.5 times the normal amount of health, and armor

Regeneration - the holder slowly recovers health

Drain - when you hurt a player, you get health back.
this one might be impossible, since it has to work for flemoids and chex players

The ones in bold are ones that I haven't figured out

Haste and Turbosphere: Some sort of boots. Like the high jump ones, but maybe red.

Partial Invisibility: Dark Chex Armor. Shadow Chex Armor. Whatever you want to call it.

Prosperity: Some sort of pack. (like a backpack)

Regeneration: V8 juice! Seriously!

Time Freeze: I like the frozen clock idea.

Got nothin' else.

I was thinking of replacing the turbosphere with rocket propelled roller skates, where chexter was forced to move forward at 4X speed until the power wore off, while this played in the backround

and chexter would be in a permanent state of bewilderment until they run out of fuel

("Stop these crazy things!")

and this powerup would activate for all players every once in a while when a certain DM flag was set... ahh, I can just imagine everyone flying around belowdecks on my boat map and hauling up the stairs, only to keep flying right over the boat into the water

It'd be hilarious, as long as you weren't the one wearing them XD

you'd be fighting normally and some guy comes whizzing past you. Good for race to the finish bonus rounds, though

Too bad I can't figure out how to do it in DECORATE  *cough help

hmm...

I suppose it being done randomly in a level could be done with acs, and the sprite change too, but I have really no idea how to do that in DECORATE.

Don't forget the Strength rune.

Strength is almost exactly the same as the doomsphere, it'll be cut.

I think the Slimeproof Suit should reduce damage dealt from enemies/weapons with the damage type Flem.

resistance and guardsphere should be some kind of chex armor.
reflection should be a mirror. :D
that's all i got, but i like chexmaster's ideas.

LOL@ the turbosphere!!! i love kirby airride! i know exactly what you're talking about, I hate it and yet it's hilarious at the same time.

If you could figure out how to do that, that would be totally epic and hilarious. Man, I can picture what would happen if you put the boots out on a little thing sticking out over a slime pit and you play a game against the computer bots. XD  :lolwut

You could make the item run a script from the decorate code, and then have that script ingame activate. Then you could tweak it for different levels...

Zandronum does not have Skulltag's runes, so this doesn't really apply.

Perhaps I'll add them back in when I make invasion maps, that's what runes were best used in.
