Title: MP Scheduling
Post by: chexquestisawful on December 01, 2012, 12:16:33 PM
How to vote:
You are allowed 2 votes. Please use the FIRST one for the best DAY to play, and then use the SECOND vote for the best TIME to play.

This has been thrown around a bit on the shoutbox, so I decided to put up a thread for it. This way, we can all use the info to schedule matches accordingly. Please post any comments and/or questions below.

Voting on time zones would get confusing. I'm not sure if we're using EST, but if we are, simply remove two hours from the times listed.

I'm generally availabe on the weekends. From my experience the best time to try and start a game is in the evenings, it seems that players are most active after about 6 PM, going up until quite late (~3 AM). I can't handle that kind of schedule now, but in the past I remember having some really great late night matches.

If you guys want to play, join the IRC channel in my signature, from my experience it's the best way to get games going. A few other users frequent there, and if I'm available I'll join up.

If you don't have an IRC client, I recommend chatzilla, which is a Firefox addon. If you don't use firefox, I've seen quite a few use Icechat.

To connect using chatzilla, the commands are:

/attach irc.zandronum.com
/join #IFOC

For other clients, try

/connect irc.zandronum.com
/join #IFOC

@CM2109 - I saw you join quite a few times, but you came and left before I could do anything.

Keep in mind that Zandronum is a Doom network, what you see in this channel will not necessarily be G rated. I personally don't use bad language/etc., but generally that is the exception and not the rule. My name in IRC is [IFOC]75, BaBuchanan is my half op, [IFOC]S is just a bot.

Yeah, sorry, IRC still confuses me a bit XD Last time I was there though, I managed to get voiced by one of your staff, i think. And Rep, I know about the time zone difference and whatnot. I meant 10-12 EST, so it would be 7-9 PST (its a 3 hour time difference, btw)

Day light savings time. Currently it is a two hour difference. But, I see what you're saying, so NVM.

Um, doesn't daylight savings affect the entire US? So that wouldn't matter?

Yes. It wouldn't matter. Also, daylight savings time is over.

Could always do something like FNF or SNS from the Zandronum Forum.

OOH. I like that idea. Zorchmatch/Duel (depending on how many people show up) on Friday and Survival/Coop on Saturday?

That's odd. I thought it was a East Coast thing. Xbolt and Chekov aren't effected by it.

Arizona is the only mainland state that doesn't observe DST. (Hawaii also does not.)

After discussing the subject at hand with 75, we've got some pretty good ideas for wads to host in different combinations (I'll get to that list later).

The only thing I'm not sure of on this point is of whether to use Doom2.wad or the TNCQ equivalent as the IWAD. I'd personally go with the former, but I'm not sure who doesn't have it.

On the other hand, I'm getting back into a server hosting mode and may be able to host a few (3-7 perhaps) servers at a time.

Hmm... how about everyone posts if they have doom2.wad? I :D

I'd like to expand on this; I was thinking of featuring one wad every week or every two weeks that I wouldn't be comfortable hosting 24/7. This is a good opportunity for strange wads to get hosted that are either too short or too unstable to be left alone for hours on end.

The existing servers aren't changing, my Chex Pack servers and CQ: TLQ servers, as well as my Doom servers will be up 24/7 as long as I am able to host.

There are not many chex wads that work well online in Zandronum, unfortunately, so there will be quite a few servers featuring Doom-based wads. I can't speak for Quadrumpusguy and what he likes to do with his servers, but I will generally be hosting Doom wads with the real Doom2.wad.

So... this would be a good time to have people test my Extreme Survival map? (not that its anywhere NEAR testing, I have listened to some of your advice 75, and its got a lot of work)

Pretty much the same here. People may be able to join with TNCQ anyways (we should probably test this a bit further to make sure this is the truth.)

I remember on Skulltag there were times when I could hop onto DooM2-based servers with TNCQ normally and there were times I couldn't. Definitely test it.

Yeah, test it first for sure.

It seems that sometime around (Skulltag) 98D TNCQ stopped working as a Doom2.wad substitute, unfortunately. I'm almost certain that that behavior has carried over to Zandronum, though I haven't tested it lately.

However, I did make a skins wad that effectively turns any Doom 2 server into chex; you see and hear chex (including the music) but everybody else sees doom. You can use it on any server.

*Bump*

I would definately be interested in this. Can you post a link?

I seem to have lost it. It was rather easy to make, though, I basically just took TNCQ G2 and removed the maps
