...I like your mapping style. ALOT.
The maps make you think. Thats the game I play best in. Not run and gun. I got through most of the levels feeling like I had a challenge. I liked that. good job!

*off topic* What I'd like to see you do is remake the original Chex Quest levels. Kinda like KDIZD, but without all the super fancy stuff. Just a simple remake.

Agian I glad you like my levels ;D
I have done some things to the orignal Chex Quest levels but sometime I might try something like that.
I have been working on a DooM Wolfenstein mod, its supost to be a puzzle wad, someday I might put it on my website.

Hmm...

The problem I had with e1m7 was the fact that nothing worked! I never found out what to do with those keys...I just couldn't find that one thing I needed to get through...I skipped to m8, and Whoo! I liked that. A bit tough with the maximus at close quarters like that...hmm. I liked overall, and didn't even try and find the secret level...

In e1m7 there is a teleporter that leads to a hallway with doors to use the keys. The teleporter is in the right door when you start the level and get out of the first room.

For your troubles, you might be talking about the blue door and that you need to shoot a button to open the blue door to get the blue key.

Ok, I only got to the 2nd level, but one thing i noticed. Jumping. You set up a few areas that need the player to jump from area A, onto platform B, and then on to Place C... With this game, The jumping is very hard... At least, it is when you just recently found the free look, jump, and crouch commands. I do like the idea, but for a mostly 2D game like this (in the original, there was no place where you NEEDED to jump. All the motion was forward, backward, side-to-side.) It is very difficult. Is there any way you could do something like decrease the gravity level to compensate for this? I got so vexed by the second level jump area (which i fell in the water pit and couldn't get out of...) that i used the command "noclip". I know. Lousy cheater. All the other games I've played that have jumping challenges have a higher jump limit, and I've almost never had any problems with those.

Well I guess the only advice I can offer is to practice jumping with mouse look, I could add a super secret passage way for those who have troubles jumping across. Also you said you got stuck in the water, there should be a lift near the start. I hope this helps.

Ok. Thanks. Now, another matter. In the 2nd level, there is a Maximus. Don't you think it's in there a little early? I could see a Flembrane, but I think that the maximus is a bit early...

Not to be rude but, you can only get better if you know what to fix...

Personally I believe that that not too early, in E1M8 the last level (Not in beta 1.5 yet) there's about 20 of them.

...

Dude, the Flembrane is stronger than the Maximus in many mods. In all the rest, they are equal.

Maximi are easy. Sliminators' mods would usually have a Cyberdemon by the 2nd level. Try taking down one of those with nothing stronger than a propulsor and a rapid zorcher.  :o

I can beat Maximi with a large zorcher. It's shots are slow and easy to dodge. Try some strafing and keep your distance  ;)

Yeah, Maximi are super easy with practice. But Cybies and Spidies aren't, sadly.

Just give it some practice. And I will agree that the jumping puzzles are VERY hard, but I mastered them after a few tries.

From the day Beta 1.5 was released to this day absolutely nothing was done with CQTLQ.

I'm telling you this because I'm starting work on CQTLQ again, but some things are going to change.
For one thing the idea of 40 levels is done for now, like I said before "Chex Quest is not just a Doom wad, it's just Chex Quest." I'm not going to fill every classic DooM episode or level there is, I'm going to make as much levels as I need.

At this point I'm planing on seven levels for the first episode E1M3, E1M7, E1M9 are going to be removed.
You can look for your self at the Progress page or Chex Quest Wiki page for CQTLQ, there you will see the new order of levels.

I'll keep you updated on new progress I make here.

- Also I locked all the outdated topics in this sub-forum.

Also, this topic is a sign of progress. its the first step...or maybe just our hearing of the first step. A release or no PREVIOUS progress doesn't mean there isn't any now, especially if hes telling us this plan. A plan is progress.

Should I change the difficulty level?
Are the levels too easy, too hard, or just right?

Puzzle wise, its strong in some points, but bearable. Monster wise, I can handle a few more...bring it.

Yeah, crank it up in the heavier difficulties, keep it the same in the lowers.  More variation, I say.

It's spring break for me! ^^

I'm going to use this week to work on CQTLQ.
Hopefully I can have CQTLQ work with the Chex.wad as the IWAD. I'm waiting awhile to make CQTLQ an IWAD, that part will take awhile. I will do it eventually. By the end of this beta I hope to have 5 levels done, E1M1 - E1M5.

I'll post my progress here.

Also I'm open too any ideas.

Well though the transfusion of CQTLQ for DooM Legacy too CQTLQ for GZDooM I realized I didn't like the original E1M3 (Brano City), E1M7 (Sewer System) and E1M9 (Secret Level). In the new version there will be levels E1M1 - E1M7. I'm using the original E1M1 and E1M2 as them self's, the original E1M4 (Outdoor Storage) as the new E1M3 (Green Storage), the original E1M5 (Indoor Storage) as the new E1M4 (Red Storage), A new map + the original E1M6 (Hidden Caverns) as the new E1M5 (Hidden Backtracks), a new map for the new E1M6 (Brano Sewer System), and the original E1M8 (The Core) as the new E1M7 (The Machinator).

It's kinda confusing, but it will make more sense when it's done.

You're not going to use the chex.wad-compatible version I made?

At the moment I have been working on E1M1 a bit touching it up. I'm also fixing the translation between E1M1 too E1M2. Instead of a teleporter ending E1M1 I'm making a bridge that leads too the first room in E1M2. (Right screen shot.)

I'm completely addicted to chex quest and the lost quest looks like fun...and everyone is raving about it, how can I resist that?...but I'm one of those people who can't open doors. How do you make it use the doom wad dealy? (*points at self* Me stupid) If that is too hard to explain to a computer idiot like myself, could you tell me the cheat code for getting around the doors?

MUST PLAY...thanks!

EDIT: Do you mean the doomu.wad thingy? (Thingy is a technical term)

Sorry everybody about the lack of progress lately, blame school... <_<

I'm not sure about you, but I fell like my revision for E1M2 makes the layout way to confusing.  I'm planing on simplifying it, but not removing anything.  Wacha think?

I'd say save a backup of the complicated one, and simplify. That way if we want a 'challenge' we can try the complicated one.

It's not going to be a huge change.  One thing I'm changing is the location of the water fall, and the the room with the Flembrane is going to be edited a bit.
