Animated Avatar?
« on: February 19, 2008, 10:31:12 AM »
Uh, my avatar is suposed to be animated, but its not. its a small clip of the chex warior running around and shooting the flemoid, then teleporting to the begginging again. How do I get it to animate?

It appears to be a PNG image. Don't images have to be GIF to be animated? Anyway, the way I make animated avatars is import a series of pictures into Game Maker as a single sprite, save the sprite as one GIF image, then process it through http://www.gifworks.com/.

It sounds easier to make .gif files in Photoshop rather than Gamemaker. In a .gif file in Photoshop, the image cycles from layer 1 (or 0, or 46 - whichever comes first) to the end, and then back to the first layer.
Sometimes you've got to go where everybody knows your name.

I used a bunch of .png files (screenshots from Legacy) and ran it through Jasc Animation Shop 3. It animates when I open it...odd. Even opening it in IE animates it...do you want me to post it and you see?

I don't have Photoshop, which necessitates the rigmarole that I have to go through.

The pink blur of lines is the only thing that doesn't seem to fit in, like there might have been a better way to do the transition. Other than that, I think it's a really unique avatar. I've never seen anything like it before. Real nice And Chexy!

EDIT: I figured out why you can't just upload it. Whenever you upload an avatar, the board software automatically converts the image to PNG format (to preserve image quality, I presume) and stretches the avatar to the correct resolution if it is to large. When you uploaded that animated GIF, the board made it a PNG, nuking out the animation. It can't do this to off-site avatars, though, so that's why it's working now.

Ok...the 'pink' stuff is suposed to be purple (its purple to me...its pink to you?) like teleportation. (this was before I seriously got into editing, so all I had was Legacy and TUCQ...so the purple made sense to me.

I like your theory...it makes sense.

It is, indeed, purple (I guess I didn't look at it closely enough). If you want teleportation, you can superimpose teleport sprites onto the images, or put in a fake teleporter somewhere into the level that isn't shown, and make that teleporter teleport Chexter to the start point of your animation to make it look like he is suddenly teleported from the end point of the animation to the start point of it.

That's why you backup your entire collection of stuff on an external hard drive, another computer, etc.

external hd - No money to get one (i'd really love one though)
another comp - Its slow enough!
backup doesn't really cross my mind...it always does after it gets deleted

I'm slowly getting stuff back...piece by piece
