I'm on a slowbie internet, so I can't offer up a counter-build, but just some notes:

- Your RAM is not compatible. DDR2 will not run on that board.

- A 5400 RM hard drive is crazy slow. 7200 RPM should be the minimum. Also, Western Digital makes better drives.

- I don't really like ASUS motherboards, but your call.

- Your video card sucks. DDR2 is horribly slow on a video card... get one with GDDR of some kind.

- Do not skimp on a power supply!! Get an Antec, Thermaltake, CoolerMaster or something.

What kind of case do you own?

Yar! AMD finally got their crap together and released a six core CPU, but it is still no match for even Intel's four core i7's. Too little, too late for AMD... they're screwed. That's a heads up for you, Pika, as well in case you were interested in the Intel platform at all.

Newegg's having a sale on the EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR GeForce 9800 GTX+, cutting the price from $134.99 to $89.99. That's a better card, for less money. (at least, I'm pretty sure it's a better card) Sale ends tomorrow (July 20), at 11:59PM Pacific time.

Do you really need this? Shattered Horizon isn't worth it, it's only $35 I think. This sounds like something that 's beyond normal gaming useage

Exactly! I picked a card a bit above what I actually needed just so I could get Call Of Duty for free.  ;D

Pika actually sent me a cart that Richie had put together, and most everything looked great. Still need to do some shopping on my own on Newegg later today.

Yeah... that cart was meticulously balanced.  His limit is $660, and it came out to a few cents less (including shipping!).

Dang, nice dude! Everything looked nicely researched, nicely balanced, and as future proof as one can get for $600. The only major problem I had was with the Seagate Barracuda because 1.) Seagate and I have a long history of not getting along with my having witnessed a rather high fail rate and 2.) Newegg is always throwing Barracuda's into combo deals like they're trying to get rid of them... so I'm always suspicious of a Seagate product. Also, I'm worried about that CoolerMaster PSU being a little too underpowered for the GPU you picked. I'm also slightly hung up on the GPU having DDR3 RAM instead of GDDR of some kind (faster), but that's not a biggie.

Edit: Crap, but I'm having a hard time swapping these components out! ><

Was looking at this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136161) because it had more cache, around the same price, and not a Seagate. Also, this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.432096) combo because of the NeoPower PSU. That puts me $40 over his budget though.
