Chex Quest: The Next Wave
« on: August 02, 2010, 03:32:17 PM »
During 2 weeks of no internet, I got incredibly bored. So I've been working on this:

Nowhere near completion or a release date, but it's got some cool stuff added in. In case you don't know, that's a Heretic mod, instead of Doom. No, those sprites aren't final, this is just a Proof of Concept picture. Though I'm quite proud so far of the new HUD I'm working on.

It looks pretty interesting! I'll try to keep an eye on your progress. Although, Slimeinator used that title for one of his mods.
I know what you're thinking. No, I don't like peanut butter.

If I had to choose between the real world or the Chex Quest Fan forums; I'd choose the Chex Quest fan forums.

Sorry, I meant The New Wave, I must've seen his and wrote down Era instead.

The HUD is quite nice!

Is this is all going to be in Heretic's palette?

Yes, I'm sticking strictly to Heretics pallete.

And I realized now that I STILL haven't typed the name right; it's Chex Quest: The Next Wave, not New Wave.

Well, a virus has set me back from having a computer for a while, but I luckily have the WAD backed-up, so it shouldn't be too hard to pick-up from where I left off. I may release a WAD containing a few of the more major things that are completed, like the HUD and, not shown, the first zorcher. Also, I sent Boingo a PM asking permission to use his Gyro Flemoid in this for the Gargoyles, but he never responded... though I PM'd Strife and he said I could use his music for the levels.

I wish I could work on this, I even had a level in the very early workings before the virus attacked...

Alright, with my computer back up, I can finally work on this again! I want to show a picture off of some more progress that was done before the virus attack:

I luckily was able to get this back, though barely, a friend of mine had the only existing copy on his HD I'd sent him hours before it happened.

Things you can see are that I've replaced the main weapons with a "zorch-mote", which I previously created for King Lunars Chex Quest X-treme mod. What you can't see is the new key animations, which is a fully rotating sprite. It looks great in action, I'm pretty proud of it. (Took THREE HOURS to get right. I'll release it for free in the future)

Cool. :)

The key looks a little odd; like it is really skinny.

I caught it in the middle of its rotating animation, so you're seeing it from an angle. It has about 7 - 9 frames of animation.

I'm going to try and make a preview release soon, it will include all the sound effects and music, and maybe the HUD. So far I've gotten about 30-40% done on it.

Lookey what I found on my computer:

http://www.mediafire.com/?z18dat2e00aph1q

Forgot I was working on this. It wasn't even close to being done, but I did replace all the text, most of the HUD sprites, some weapons and zorch frames, player frames, a half done enemy, (got sprites from Boingo) some music from Strife, among some other tidbits. I don't know if I'll work on it again or not but if anyone wanted to see what was done here it is.
