Replica- we decided on blue monsters, because thats are theme, but I think we have no idea what they should look like. You can have creative freedom to make whatever blue monster you want, but you may want to make a basic sketch or something first because if you make the full thing and it isn't received well, it may not be included in the final game. Its great that you want to do the monsters, though! Thanks!

ChexMaster2109- Heat rays melting robots kills robots, so I think thats violent. Not positive though, since robots aren't really "alive" in the first place.

Well, I think if you're going with the blue pet/robot theme then we should still use an energy type weapon. Perhaps a zapper that "overloads" the machine's circuits and deactivates them for future reprogramming?

This is supposed to step away from Chex Quest a bit, to avoid the copyright issue. As for the blue, look in the first post. The robots? A couple posts ago. I just made them up because we needed something.

Well if the color people are going for is blue what about some kind of water-based enemy. And if the player is a waffle (not sure if that's still the idea) nobody I think would really want a gross soggy water soaked waffle. Plus I can't really think of a way that having enemies being robot pets and still retaining the nonviolent theme.

I like the water idea, Alice; good thinking! The sprites would be easy to make, esp. the death sprites. Also, someone had an idea about on harder levels, the monsters could come back to life, and this idea would help to make that work. The only problem is that I don't know if it's possible to make semi-transparent sprites, but even if not, this could still work. I mean, it's CHEX QUEST we're talking 'bout here. Nobody expects it to be realistic.

It is totally possible to make semitransparent sprites, just look at spectres. It'd have to be less transparent, but there are some mods that have it.
(Just don't ask me how.)

Transparent sprites aren't possible in vanilla chex, possibly anything less than zDoom-based engines, though I'm not certain of that.

In vanilla it's either 100% opaque or "renderstyle blur", which is the spectre.

EDIT, CQA, I again suggest making maps for practice by yourself instead of trying to take on a project like this... I don't know anyone who would be willing and able to make 5 sets of completely original monster sprites, hud sprites for the weapons, and all of the textures, pickups, and decoration.

It seems likely you'll be waiting for a long time, if you're not able to draw what you need yourself, why not practice mapping on your own first, with existing chex textures? You could always port the maps over later, since the gameplay and the textures will be similar.

FreeDoom's been in development for years, and not all of its artwork is even replaced.
