You can scale voxels, so you'd be able to make them off the HD sprites you have too while having them be the right size.

There are two problems however.

The first is the best program I have tried so far has a limit of 127 x 127 voxels.

The second problem is the extremely difficult task of painting a large voxel object.

It shouldn't be too hard if you follow this tutorial. It was pretty easy for me to make the ones I did.

Just a friendly reminder that voxels only work in zdoom the last time I checked, I think they may have got them to work in gzdoom but I'm not sure

I played with the DooM voxel project project voxels in a game or two, and they work in GZDooM.

So, wait, are the 3D objects in the Chex Multiplayer Pack not voxels, but instead models?

What are you referring back to?

Back a little over a month ago I tried out a voxel  a number of voxel making programs.  Magicavoxel was free, easy to use, and seemed to be the best.  It also allows me to load in 3D models for conversion to voxels.  Because I am really desperate for some sort of barrel replacement in DeiMWolf, I imported an existing barrel model from my DAZ|Studio runtime and got this result:

I did a quick repaint, making the wood brown and the hoops grey.

The voxel model looks great as far as it goes, but it demonstrates the problems I mentioned earlier. The object size was set to maxium (127 x 127), but even at that size the voxel barrel still looks coarse compared the the 4x res I am using for the other sprites and textures. It's not bad, but it still needs to be bigger than the editor allows.  The other problem is ... all those voxels that have to be coloured, especially if I get my way regarding the previous problem.  We're talking about thousands of individual voxels to repaint ... by hand ... one at a time.  It is a tedious task to say the least.

I think your missing the point of Voxels if you want it high enough res for the individual Voxels not to be seen. I wouldn't recommend Voxels for that, but instead normal 3D Models. Also, as to what I am referring to, the Chex Multiplayer Pack has a couple 3D objects, yes? (Mostly ammo boxes) I thought they might have been Voxels, but 75 just said that Voxels don't work in anything but ZDoom (hence no Zandronum), so I was asking what exactly they are, Models or Voxels?

the 3d ammo boxes (and every 3d object for that matter) are md3 models (3d models)

as far as I know voxels do not work at all in zandronum; they might work in 2.0 but I highly doubt they work in 1.2

ah. Do .obj's (or for that matter, other object types) work? or just md3?

By the way, the opengl code hasn't had any updates in a while so zandronum and gzdoom are on the same level (Graf Zahl isn't working on gzdoom anymore as far as I know)

Very nice work!

I'd really like to see a voxel flembrane (it would look so much better than that awkward single rotation sprite)

Also: voxels definitely do not work in zandronum 1.2, but they do work in zdoom and gzdoom.

I did a quick test to see how that would look, and unfortunately came across a couple of problems.

Number 1, the flembrane voxel model spins around to face the player when firing.
Number 2, flembrane's sprite rotations are extremely weird in the sense that if you strafe around him while he's idle, his facial features change, and it would be hard to replicate since I think voxels replace the entire frame instead of each rotation.
