Random freezes for a couple of seconds after installing more RAM

After I put the extra 8 GB of RAM in my computer, I've been experiencing these odd freezes, where the whole system stops for a few seconds (including music, keyboard/mouse input, everything).

- I'm not 100% sure about this, but I don't remember this happening in Linux. Is there something in windows that I need to change, some setting somewhere, by any chance? Windows sees all 16 GB in the task manager.

- I don't think it's a cooling issue, I picked up a large side fan and I have it blowing right on my RAM, it didn't seem to help.

EDIT - Actually all four sticks are exactly the same

- I did a full memtest86 in linux and all 16 GB passed.  That makes me think that the chips are healthy, but if this is some sort of timing issue, would memtest pick it up?

I don't believe memtest can detect improper timings...just report what's going on.

If you figure out anything, let me know...mine has been acting up similarly, and is actually at correct timings.

Things to try, though...check your graphics drivers. Idk if the graphics lag the system, whatever causes the lag kills the graphics, but I'm not sure.

Also, how old is the Windows installation?

the windows installation, hmm...

I don't think it's very old, a few months ago I reformatted everything and re-installed.

All four sticks are identical, and I didn't have this problem before I added two more... I bumped my CPU cooler a few times when I put it in, though nothing serious I don't think...

Nothing else has changed other than the RAM, and my drivers can't be more than a few months old, but I'll look into it.
