OHAI. Bet you thought I was dead, didn't you?

Nope, I'm still the reincarnated flemoid that I was previously ( ͡ ͜ʖ ͡)
I used to be the new guy that no one talks to, now I'm just the vaguely familiar guy that no one talks to

Sorry.  I don't tip.

I guess that's why the cooks spit in my food.

So, I'm an idiot. Maybe just slightly in this case, but wow...

I've built a small CD collection in the past few months. After years of relying on Youtube and sketchy mp3s, I decided to make the most of my old hi-fi and get some CDs. When I'm at home, I love kicking back and listening to them on the large speakers and high power of the amplifier. The bass can rattle the windows sometimes, and if I tune it just right, it's just heaven to listen to. But alas, I can't really carry around a CD organizer and my large player every time I want to get that quality... and at the time, my vehicle didn't have a CD player built in. I did have ways to play my phone, but they were dodgy rips or just copies of what gets delivered from iTunes or Amazon... no guarantee how good they were. So, I'll just rip my own CDs!

I've looked into this before... I love the subtle things in music. Its why I like FLAC and real CD quality. But people claim that MP3s at 320k CBR or VBR 0 sound perfect, and retain all possible information about the sound. I've been wary of this, and I can always tell that something is missing from the compressed files. But I decided to forgo those feelings and rip all of my Nine Inch Nails albums as a start. 8 Discs... and Exact Audio Copy makes multiple passes on the disc to ensure it's reading it as accurately as possible. That said, I spent A LOT of time pulling these down, and tagging them properly, and finding good album art so that I could send them to my phone to enjoy...

Then, as I'm waiting for the last album to download, I go back through and check my favorite tracks. The results... aren't as satisfying as I had hoped. I know there's a compromise here... save a ton of space, lose a bit of quality. But suddenly I'm missing some small background noise... and the bass isn't as deep... and the cymbals fade into the louder parts of the track. Where did the definition go? I thought this wasn't losing that much information! I start to think about it... I've got 64GB of storage on my phone... I'm fairly certain that FLAC or Apple Lossless could fit my most played albums into memory without much problem. Right, let's just move the FLAC files an-

Oh.

Wait.

I deleted the WAV files after compressing each album.

And it took freaking ages to rip each disc.

...

Noooooooooooooooo.
Don't remember me as I was...I was an idiot.

BOOM, Blast from the Past!

So, a random Loremaster update, since I haven't been around much, thought you all might be interested in my doings.

Earlier this year I finished my M.S.E.E. specializing in embedded systems and such. Still have not bought a frame for the thing, lol. After that, been doing the green card renewal thing for my wife, which is "fun". And now, I've finally gotten a (tentative, pending security clearance) job offer with....... the FAA. I know, right? However, I was REALLY surprised how competitive the salary is with them. Plus lots of time off, and great bennies. Can't beat that!

Finally, I'm working on a few projects, that are currently on hold due to my pending move. One of which involves a pretty neat MIDI synth that I got for 1 Yen! So yeah, I'll probably have something about that after the new year.
Did we really just spend the last decade talking about Chex Quest? Yes. Yes we did.

I regret nothing!

  • Pikaware! I choose you!
I turned 21 a couple weeks ago, and tried sake for my first drink!
It was... okay. I liked the sweetish flavor but I didn't like the bitterness.
I also got a little bit buzzed and started acting a little looser and my girlfriend thought it was really funny and kept laughing. xD

Cool beans.
As opposed to warm beans, or room temperature beans.

I had Mountain Dew from a glass bottle back when I was a kid, and got 10 cent deposit back!

Then in the '80s they switched to plastic bottles.  Darn it!
