Alrighty. The original TNCQG2 IWAD + stuff is now about 20 megs. :o I was wondering if you all would like it if I changed the current TNCQG2 to an expansion pack and then release a plain old DooM 2 Iwad, with TNCQ: G2 graphics. Please vote and/or post.

I voted no. Keep all of the TNCQG2 stuff under one IWAD and roof to prevent any "PWAD spaghetti" from occurring that I see too much of as it is.

Hm. Maybe I could release one versoin of TNCQG2 with the extra stuff, as an IWAD, and one version of TNCQG2, non-engine specific, without the extra stuff. For Skulltag, etc.

You can't have a custom IWAD for Skulltag?

Well, the one with the extra stuff is GZDooM-specific, due to 3d floors and scripting etc.

This is what I say...

Make an IWAD with plain stuff (textures, enemysprites, weapons...), then release a PWAD with DECORATE, levels, and extra stuff.

(I voted 'U decide' cuz I'm not really sure..)

Your decision points to a "yes" vote. Don't worry, you can change your vote in this poll. ;)

What's the point of splitting his project into two separate files like that? The combined file size likely wouldn't be less, but if anything, greater. The stuff would have to be downloaded either way, so we might as well keep things simple.

Well, the IWAD could be used for any engine and each part could be downloaded more quickly than the whole shish-ke-bab.

What I mean is all standard content thats not gonna change between releases should be released as an IWAD. The extra stuff that needs constant attention will go into a PWAD to be updated by releases. That way, filesizes go down.

+3

That's why I started this poll. To see if people wanted me to do that. I just worded it differently.

atariangamer's reasoning is starting to make a little more sense to me. This is like a game a company that releases a game out on CD. You don't ship out new CDs each time a new version comes along, but you upload small patches that change the intended area only. Still, I'm sticking to my guns for my initial reason: PWAD spaghetti.

It's only one PWAD. Uno. 1개. 1つ. одно. Ein. Un.

I have made my decision. I am going forward with my plan of releasing a plain IWAD and an expansion pack.
