Regression. (In reverse!)
« on: July 31, 2008, 04:36:37 PM »
Reverse regression means... Progress! ;D

I've actually gotten off my lazy bum, and started construction on Episode IV. This miracle was brought about by deciding to not do anything with the first three episodes, and just leave them with Legacy. Episode IV will be in a completely separate wad, built for GZDoom from the start.

I've got the opening movie all done, (looks pretty good,) and E4M1 is shaping up. I still have a long way to go, but I wanted to let y'all know I was working, so you wouldn't lose all hope in me. ;)

Ok, you can has screen. Just because I'm nice.

I had originally made it so each building looked exactly the same, grey and square shaped. But then I started toying with some more interesting building designs, which is where the pyramid you see here came from. (You can see all the old buildings around it)

I keep seeing that mentioned, but never got around to trying it out... Gotta get around to doing that.

Today I've been trying to recreate my sniper zorcher, with little success. I've gotten it as a separate zorcher with DECORATE, but am having difficulty making the actual scope. I can bind the zoom to a key, but I can't make the graphic appear, or make it so it only works when I have the sniper zorcher equipped...

Hmm...I know what you mean...I think Slimeinator was trying to do that, but couldnt get it up...

Hmm...You could just turn on the crosshair and zoom it in...
Or make the alternate fire button change the mode and sprite to the croshair.
Theres an example in wwhc-diaz.wad...

The thing is, is it gonna be another Large Zorcher?

The Large Zorcher is prolly the best weapon to have a scope on, but that's not saying much.  It's got a rather wide spread, and it's best used in close combat.  Now if we could have a scope, for say, something like  Slime's Beam Zorcher, we'd be all set.

Right now, it uses the Large Zorcher sprites, but I made it so there's no spread.

Use the DECORATE, Xbolt...

I really did want to have a pickupable scope for my Beam Zorcher. That was my goal all along with the sniper scope.

Hmm...wait here. I'm going to try something, and will edit this post when I finish it/fail it.

EDIT: I didnt get past "how do i edit this". There is this weapons mod called WWHC_Diaz. And it is a great one. it has about 2 weapons for each slot, each something different. It also has random replacements for actors, so instead of 20 imps, you might get some crazy scientists with genetic enhancers, some heretics, and a few imps.

Well, the one I was looking for was the Mauser Rifle. It replaces the SSG, and does a mean bit of damage. it has an ALTERNATE fire mode, in which the sprite set changes to show the difference between firing from the hip and firing from the shoulder. I think, as far as i can tell, it uses "sister weapons" to accomplish this. This gun, however, has major kick along the mouselook axis, and also major kick backwards. Along with the fact that you run move slower with the gun in your hands, even SLOWER with this gun on your shoulder. The hip shot is more powerful, but is random as you quickly raise it up. The shoulder is less powerful, but has a better chance of going where you want it. Shall I post a DL link or a section of code for you?

No, I didn't replace the Large Zorcher. I did make it as a new weapon. ;)

I found the wwhc_diaz, but my n00bishness at DECORATE can't figure out how it works, or how I can modify it to do what I want... I still have a lot to learn there.

I don't think you can zoom in GZDooM. I tried several techniques, SEVERAL of which involved the stuff in wwhc_diaz, but I just couldn't get it to zoom.

Did you try lowering the FOV? (I'm hoping a console command can be activated via script)
Lowering the fov to somewhere around 30 is good...the lower the fov, the higher the zoom.
I used this the other day in a ST match. I set my fov to around 50. I could see a bit farther away, and could use a railgun better. but it sucked for up close combat. setting it farther away gives a speed illusion, and lets you see more. good for closer combat, as you can see em comming out of the corner of your eye. Problem: you cant see clearly far away, so you could get zorched from down a hallway.

Aye, I can do that much.

Here's how my KEYCONF looks in it's current state:

Code: [Select]
weaponsection Newmaps

setslot 3 Shotgun SuperShotgun SniperZorcher

alias zoomout "fov 90; rebind zoomin"
alias zoomin "fov 20; rebind zoomout"

defaultbind z "zoomin"

As you can see, I bound 'z' to lowering the field of view. But, it still doesn't make the scope show up. Nor is it limited to just the Sniper Zorcher.

I might be able to get the crosshair to show up by using the crosshair() CVAR, but how would I make it so it went back to the user's default one?
