Should I remove all flats and textures?
« on: August 31, 2008, 10:47:32 AM »
Originally, I was going to replace every texture and flat with a Chex Quest equivalent, either already made or made myself. The primary reason behind this was that at least some of the textures and flats in skulltag.wad are actually complete repeats of Doom and Doom II textures and flats, right down to the name. This actually made using Chex Quest Arena in a server more barbaric and Doomish than what we were doing before. This is the primary reason why I've been holding out on a release; it was simply not ready to use. However, this would take a long time to do, and it would further mess with the Skulltag maps, as well as any mods that play off of the Skulltag textures and flats. The focus of this project is not on the default Skulltag maps or on other Doom-themed Skulltag mods made, but improving the general play fell towards a more Chex Quest-like fell, and to improve Chex Quest-themed mods. This could be swiftly fixed by simply removing all texture and flats in cqarena.wad, removing a good chuck of the lumps and file size at the same time. This would stop additional Doom stuff appearing in games. It would also make a beta release within the month a realistic possibility.

I am calling for a vote on this issue to see what the Skulltag regulars here think. It's a simple yes-or-no poll. I am running this poll for 14 days.

I'm ready for a beta release, so lets go without them...if they become necessary later on, then work on them, but ATM...nah.
Once you know, you go Atari.

It would seem as thought the voting has closed. The decision has been made to remove all flats and textures until there is due reason to replace them. Look for a first release on the horizon.
