Is there a way to play chex quest on the XBox? as in the original? not the 360 or the one?
I dunno. ;D
I do not know about XBox, but Ouya recently got a DooM source port called "DooMGLES", meaning Chex Quest can be played as a PWAD. This will mean the flemoids shoot back instead of being melee enemies.
Bsically, if the is a port of DooM for Xbox (and there probably is) you can play Chex Quest.
Hmm...I wonder if CQ on android is possible...CQ for Kindle Fire?
Yeah....I tried it using PRBooM4Android and moved a chex quest pwad into the DooM folder. I tried loading the IWAD, no success. :(
There's an iOS port that works... I don't see why there wouldn't be a working Android port
Well, in theory maybe. If you modded your firmware, you might be able to run it as a PWAD atop the DooM3 Collector's Edition copy of DooM. However, I don't know if it is possible, I've never seen it done, and I don't recommend it.
Having played a few FPS games on XBox and Ouya now, I find the controlers for those machines very awkward to play with.
I guess after 22 years (starting with Wolfenstein 3D) of playing with a keyboard and mouse, it is very hard to get used to moving around with a couple of thumb sticks.
I can definitely understand that, I've tried playing Doom with a controller, it was extremely awkward compared to the keyboard.
IMO, there are games for controller, and games for keyboard+mouse. In general, FPS' work better with keyboard+mouse simply due to more mobility. However, I am quite ok playing any FPS w/ controller, for the simple reason that I started out on an original Xbox, and so am familiar with playing an FPS with a controller. I still say keyboard+mouse offers more flexibility though :P
Heh, I've tried mouse, but keyboard is better IMO. My mousd skills are teh suck.
... Keyboard+Mouse is a combination used together. You don't use one without the other. >_<
You can use a keyboard without the mouse... Not vice versa, though.
I walk, look and shoot with just the mouse sometimes.
Walk with the mouse? What button do you have bound for walk? I mean I guess you could have one of the primary mouse buttons as that, but then you'd have no alt-fire. (Or you could have that as depressing the scroll wheel, which I did when my right-click wasn't working so well... But that's beside the point) Then what do you use for the "use" key, jump, crouch...? And you'd have no ability to backpedal.
Okay, well, I use the spacebar for use, and I click and hold down on the scroll wheel to walk, and left-click to shoot. So I only use one keyboard key except for when I'm using jump.
No wonder you're "not that good" with a mouse :P
Heh, yeah...I don't normally play with a mouse anyways. I use the good ol' keyboard.
No WASD, space for jump, E for use, mouselook, and mouse buttons for fire/altfire?

This is the way you play. Plus shift for crouch (or C for toggle crouch, depends what your used to)
In the original Doom engine (and in Zandronum if you have mouselook off) you can move forward by moving the mouse forward and backward by moving it backward. Which is an utterly terrible idea.
EDIT: Didn't notice the second page but I guess this is still relevant
Unless you have a trackball mouse! Then you can just roll the ball!
So hold the mouse in one hand and reach under it and roll the ball with your other?
Usually it is the centre button or the mouse wheel.

With a trackball mouse, you can rapidly move the mouse forward, then lift it off the pad into midair to put a spin on the ball, keeping it going for a bit on its own. At least, that's what I remember from using one; haven't used one in a LONG while XD
What I meant was one of these...

But that works too xD
Or you can buy a full blown trackball.
They sell them for playing old arcade games like centipede on MAME.
I have one and it is a lot of fun.
Here is one of the same model I use on ebay.

What happened to all this? Also no suggestions worked, I can't get the X Box to accepted the disc as a real thing, it just acts like I closed the tray with nothing in it.
But what happened here? it turned to a "HOW TO OPTIMISE YOUR GAMING EXPERIENCE" thing. Also, I usually use "Q" to run just because it's closer and I can still manipulate the keyboard.
Because what you want to do is not easy. In fact, it would require modifying your xbox quite a bit. You'd be better off just connecting a controller to your PC if you want the "console shooter experience".
Finally! Someone's getting back on topic!
I can't believe nobody here has mention odamex, which has a port for xbox.
It would be SO awesome if we could port zandronum to xbox ;D
I didn't know Odamex had an XBOX port! (Not that I have an XBOX...)
Remember that chex 3 won't work on Odamex because Odamex doesn't support DECORATE.
You could play Chex 1 and 2, though.
Is there anyone here who's good at programming? Then we could rewrite CQ3 to work on Xbox, and then write it to a cartridge. Then, someone who has an Xbox could put the cartridge in to see if it works.
Xbox uses DVDs, not cartridges...
Ohh...Sorry, I don't know much about xboxes.
