Title: CQ 20th anniversary - We totally need to do this.

After thinking about it, we only have a year for this.

CQ...

Anniversary....


Mod.



There was a 10th anniversary mod, and Chex Quest is pretty old, so we should honor it by doing this.
I recommend we use the chex3.wad as the IWAD (way more textures!!!)
And...platform can be any platform, as long as it has the chex3.wad as the IWAD.
Sadly, I could not participate in this for a while, as I need to wait until my brother's computer is fixed. But we should do this anyway, as a community project.

What does everybody say?

We definately can't get 20 done in a year. I'm thinking, 5. IWAD and platform have been decided by me.  ;D IWAD: chex3.wad, platform, anything. Make sure your map can run on any engine.

You guys can start without me and start submitting maps.

5 is a bit short and so your goal is to do a megawad or a small wad?

Small.
5 maps in a year isn't too bad, all things considered. I mean, we have to think about how much free time some of us have, and level improvement, etc.

I have LOTS of free time, I mean LOTS, (8-10 hours of it) so I could do some of the mapping that others don't have time for.

IDEA: What if there was a secret level, where it said, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, CQ! when you looked at the automap?

[Slight Bump]

Could always talk to Jacobi about the possibilities of a CQ4 I guess (unless CQ is done). Wasn't CQ3 made for Chex's 10th Anniversary?

Nope. It was made in 2008. Plus, Chuck could only do so much, (LITERALLY, so much, if he had the free time) as for mapping and spriting, but for music, someone else would have to do it, such as Strife or Andrew Benson. I don't think he would be able to make a CQ4, he probably has lots of game projects right now. There are very slim chances that he's even STARTED WORK on CQ4.

Sorry for the double post but I have some important news:

I recently got SLADE so now I can make maps for this. It's not quite as good as DB but it has a similar interface and the same keyboard shortcuts, I got used to it pretty quickly.

If I have free time (Which I do, lots of it, and I mean LOTS, about half of the day for me is spent with nothing to do and I'm homeschooled so I have even more free time) then I might fix something up in a week or so. I'll get up some screenshots soon but right now I can't.

Hope I'm not being annoying by posting a lot in this topic and bumping but I'm the creator of the topic and had useful information to add to it. K thx bai

I am. But I don't have a set deadline to finish my own mod but I do for this one so that's why I want to work on this one first. It may seem like I have too many projects but just think of The Slimeinator. ;D

Alright guys, after making the first room for this, I realized I wouldn't have a lot of time for this right now  so I wrapped up after making like 2 rooms. You guys can add whatever you want to it, just make sure it fits with the laboratory theme this level's going for. Also make it indoors, confusion with outdoor areas could be tricky. Also, don't add 3D floors or any custom textures/complex structures. Make sure everything you map is supported by plain vanilla doom so it will work with any engine. So here's the wad:

Sure: you say that you want it supported by vanilla doom... then proceed to make the map in a zdoom specifc format, along with textures only appearing in chex quest 3.

...Yeaaaaah.

edit: specifically, those grass textures.

I didn't use any ZDooM specific actions, all I did was use doors and sectors. Plus, if I'm not mistaken, you can run mods on any engine using the CQ3 IWAD, but the maps specifically made for the CQ3 wad don't work. (I.e the original Chex Quest 3 maps.)

I'm not exactly sure on the current state of the mod, however:
It's OK since you didn't know, but generally you shouldn't bump old topics unless it's constructive or there isn't a new thread. As Drwalrustein said, there is a new thread for it.
