Hey! Haven't seen you in a while! Welcome back!

I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this but... whatever.

(Maps) Doom builder 2 - http://www.doombuilder.com/
(Textures... other things) Slade - http://slade.mancubus.net/

Pretty much all you need.
I know what you're thinking. No, I don't like peanut butter.

If I had to choose between the real world or the Chex Quest Fan forums; I'd choose the Chex Quest fan forums.

Slade deficiency thanks replica.

Yes indeed, it looks like you were lacking in SLADE, hence the deficiency. ;)

Anyways, good to see you around again Josh!

You guys don't use XWE anymore? I've always used it for textures and such, Legacy and Skulltag.

I'll have to check into SLADE.

I always use that too, but i've checked out Slade.

It looks quite nice, i'm just more comfortable with XWE because i've used it more. You just have to know the tricks to keep XWE from screwing up your wads. :D
Shh!  I'm taking a break from reality.

I still use XWE, since I know how it works, and have been using it for a while. I just recommended Slade to Josh because it is better and doesn't completely destroy your wad.

In that case, I also recommend MS Paint. It will sometimes screw up your colors for BMPs, so make sure to save as PNG.

I haven't been able to do much with GIMP aside from Alpha blending, removal and stuff. But I'm sure it works way better.
