Possible Budget Build
« on: February 09, 2012, 08:01:41 PM »
So, Replica may be getting some money for a computer soon. I was starting to make a build to get an idea of the cost, but...

Then I remembered BC and CC are pretty good deal finders, and BC usually can find the good combos (Though I did look this time...I just like my own builds better XD).

So here is my current build. Its AMD based, and has some stuff to make it 'future proof'. He mentioned he kinda wants it to be 'modern' for awhile, instead of making something for dirtcheap right now, and it being terrible just a year or so down the road. So, I took that into consideration a little, but I'm still partial to some of the better brand names despite probably being able to get the same stuff for cheaper somewhere else...

SO. Without further ado, here it goes:

CASE:
Antec Gaming Series One

PROC:
AMD Phenom II X4 960T 3.0GHZ

MOBO:
GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3 AM3+ ATX

RAM:
PATRIOT 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333

DRIVES:
Samsung CD/DVD Burner SATA
WD Caviar Blue 500GB 7.2k SATA 6

PSU:
Antec High Current Gamer 620W PSU

GPU:
Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 1GB

- - - - - - - -

Notes (in afterthought):
Motherboard could be something else. But I'm partial to the full ATX.
Processor could be a triple core, as I can bet that most good boards can unlock that fourth core.
The GPU is a bit meh (brand, not hardware), but we were getting into the higher prices, and his budget is nowhere NEAR stable ATM.

Ooh. Also, he needs wifi. He doesn't a wired. So! PCI/PCI Express card, I was thinking...because why waste a USB slot when a PCI slot is free (and rarely to be used...)

WIFI:
ASUS N300 PCIexpress 1x

A safe guess for the budget is 650. Even safer? 500. The less the better, but also something capable of good gaming.

HAVE AT.
Don't remember me as I was...I was an idiot.

I'm probably not one of the best members to bring in on this at the moment. I am so out of touch with consumer and budget level hardware right now. So, someone that's not me... HAVE AT IT!

The 8 gigs of DDR3 is definitely necessary to be futureproof and fast.

The AMD is nice for cheaper builds, but I wouldn't mind seeing a similarly-priced Intel build and comparing reviews. The i series is still pretty great, though I know sometimes the motherboards can be pricey.

The drives look nice, a typical SATA burner and a 7200 SATA 6 are perfect.

I like the 80PLUS PSU, but you might be able to save 10 or 20 bucks with a cheaper (still 80PLUS) one depending on what the GPU requires.

Gigabyte's a solid mobo company. I think if you were to roll AMD you should stick to the CPU you have right now, it looks good.

Well I guess that means I've got an intel config to put together.

The thing being that its hard to find good name stuff at good prices.

My current idea is to keep the Case, Memory, Drives, and possibly PSU. I like it because its 80+, has plenty of power (for future, upgrading, y'kno?), and that its antec with good reviews.

But that said, I'll hop on the Intel config, let ya know that, critique, and roll.
